“Mornings with Danny Clayton” debuts Monday

New 94.5 The Lake morning show marks the return of Milwaukee market radio veteran

Milwaukee — 94.5 The Lake (WLWK-FM) in Milwaukee has announced the debut of a new morning show, "Mornings with Danny Clayton," beginning Monday, February 18.

It marks the return of Milwaukee radio veteran Danny Clayton, who brings 25 years of radio experience to the new morning program, airing 5-10 a.m. weekdays.
Clayton will be joined by co-hosts Gretchen Bartlett, who has hosted the morning drive for The Lake since last April; Vince Vitrano, anchor on TODAY’S TMJ4 morning news; and Time-Saver Traffic host Andi Miller.

Clayton began in radio at age 15 in Escanaba, Mich. His professional career started in 1982 when he joined 94.5 when it was WKTI-FM. There he spent nearly 20 years with the exception of a brief move to Pittsburgh radio. In 2001 he went to WFZH-FM (105.3), also in Milwaukee, where he was the station’s program director and morning host through 2008. For the past few years he has worked in marketing at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and as general manager for K-Nation Entertainment. Since last summer he also has been covering weekends and vacation shifts on 94.5 The Lake.

Returning first on a part-time basis and now as morning program host, Clayton says, is exciting.

“This building has always been home to me. I have lots of stories about this place; I can't wait to create more,” he said. "Being on-air on The Lake is like being on seven different stations because of all the variety. It’s fun. It reminds me what my radio calling is all about — the music!"

“The Lake is a unique radio station because of the variety of music and our commitment to always make sure that music is ‘center stage.’ Now that we’re evolving to a more full-fledged morning show, we need a larger, well-rounded morning show team,” said 94.5 The Lake’s Program Director, John Roberts. “Danny definitely has the talent and experience to engage our audience every morning while also embracing The Lake's music-based concept.  I can't wait to hear him leading the new morning team's entertainment and information presentation.”

“Danny Clayton is home, and I couldn't be happier,” added Vice President of Programming, Milwaukee Operations Manager Beverlee Brannigan. “94.5 The Lake listeners are in for a morning treat."

Clayton’s co-host, Gretchen Bartlett, returned to 94.5 and the Milwaukee market last year from Knoxville. She was hired in 2002 as a part-time producer for The Lake’s sister station in the market, WTMJ-AM, and a promotions assistant for The Lake’s predecessor, WKTI-FM. In 2004, she was promoted to air talent and promotion director at Journal Broadcast Group’s stations in Knoxville. She transitioned to mid-days and promotions director for Star 102.1 (WWST-FM), also in Knoxville, before returning to Milwaukee in April 2012.

WLWK-FM is owned by Journal Broadcast Group.
