Agreed. I see resumes from people who went to a four year college for Radio and TV Communications and shake my head in sympathy. Same with broadcast schools. It's a waste of money.

Nobody can TEACH you how to do radio. You just have to get in there and do it.

: Don't waste your money. Get an intership at the local radio station. Offer to do anything. Ask questions. One day, you will get the tap on the shoulder to do something big (for you), like run the board for a remote.

: Seriously, go to school for something else. Earn a degree from a four-year college. Use "those skills" to intelligently interact and engage listeners. Did you know that most great talk show hosts structure their discussions in a thesis paper format? Introduction to topic > thesis statement > supporting and counter supporting views > phone calls. You'll learn that in a freshman English writing class.

: : Maybe I am lame for posting, but I am about to start Madison Media Institute soon for radio. I know I have a lot to learn but I am wondering what I can do to put myself ahead of the other people who will be in my class. What can I do to set myself apart and give me a better chance at breaking into radio and become successful at it? Any opinions and experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.
