Madison Tech Company gets local Media PartnerABC affiliate WKOW launches YouNews™
December 17, 2008, Madison, WI – Madison, WI-based Broadcast Interactive Media (BIM) announces the addition of WKOW as its newest YouNews affiliate. WKOW is Quincy Newspapers’ ABC affiliate in Madison, WI, and was Madison’s first TV station. YouNews, developed by BIM, is the leading web application powering user-generated content for local media.
According to Timur Yarnall, BIM CEO, “We’re really excited to have WKOW on YouNews. They’re a fantastic station, deeply connected to the community, and a great partner for us. I know BIM staffers are particularly excited about the local connection, and join a robust and growing YouNews base in Madison. YouNews is a dream come true for news junkies and those that love to share pics and video, which is pretty much the entire staff!”
WKOW VP/GM Tom Allen is equally enthusiastic, and notes “The ease with which we can now accept user-generated content is truly remarkable and long overdue. Kudos to BIM for a model that addresses the obstacles for us: smart interface, format compatibility, and most importantly, the monetization of this asset.” For example, with YouNews prep sports, local sponsors can tie into BIM’s national sports contesting so that their submissions are viewed on a nationwide basis. This in turn connects community contributors to sponsors and drives user engagement and revenue.
YouNews is live in 70 TV markets with more than 100,000 registered users.
WKOW is a Quincy Newspapers station, with ABC and Retro Television Network affiliations, in Madison, WI (DMA #85).
