The last paragraph is really the key for me. I don't think Sirius XM is going to blow up or anything, in fact it's probably more secure now than it was before the merger, but I wouldn't be surprised if down the line they stopped honoring the lifetime plan, like how Tribune is suddenly not honoring severance and buyout payments.

iDGi: A lifetime of satellite radio
Jeff Richgels
The Motley Fool writes frequently about satellite radio and being an early adopter and loyal customer of XM (now merged with Sirius) I follow the reports closely.
All that reading paid off for me this week when Rick Aristotle Munarriz of Motley Fool reported that Sirius XM was quietly offering existing subscribers a great discount on lifetime subscriptions, which I did not know. (Sirius had previously offered lifetime subscriptions, but XM had not.)
To read his report, go here.
I just recently added the Best of Sirius to my XM in a new three-year deal and that payment ended up being credited to my lifetime subscription deal so that I only paid $82.52.
That's a great deal ... assuming Sirius XM doesn't go bankrupt and disappear -something many consider a distinct possibility considering the company's big debt load and the ever-present chance of new technology rendering existing technology obsolete.
