Former Madison radio personality Reidar Oftedahl (AKA Shawn Michaels) passed away on February 15.:
FITCHBURG/ McFARLAND - Reidar Nicholas Oftedahl, beloved son, brother, grandson, cousin and friend, left the pains of his world behind on
Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, due to natural causes.
We who love him are lonely for our boy, but know he has found peace. Reidar was born in Amery, on June 27, 1979, the son of Mary and Gary Oftedahl. He grew up in the McFarland/ Madison area. He graduated from McFarland High School in 1998. He loved music. A highlight was when he traveled to the USSR and performed in Red Square Moscow with the McFarland band. He attended the Madison Media Institute, and entertained as a radio personality with Midwest Family Broadcasting. During his radio time he was known as "Shawn Michaels." Reidar's last employment was with Ten Pin Bowling Alley, where he made many lifelong friends. Reidar enjoyed performing magic for family, friends, and at the Safe House in Milwaukee. He also was well-known for deep interest in Elvis Presley and professional wrestling. He befriended The Beach Boys and often traveled with them in the Midwest. He will be remembered for his infectious laugh, generosity to others, and his comedic personality.
He will be greatly missed by his parents, Mary and Gary Oftedahl; sister, Laura Oftedahl; grandmother, Toy Oftedahl; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Don and Margaret Winchell; and paternal grandfather, J. Reidar Oftedahl.
Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, 2012. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, and also from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Monday. Reidar and his family wish to extend gratitude to the Meriter ICU and IMC nurses and staff for their extraordinary care during his hospital stays.
