June 26, 2010 (MADISON, Wis.) -- The University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Wisconsin Historical Society are organizing an archival conference in Madison.

The Wisconsin Center for Film and Theater Research, run by the school and the society, holds one of the largest archival collections of film, theater, television and radio history in the nation.

About 150 attendees, including presenters, are expected at "On, Archives!" from July 6 to July 9. Expected are archivists, scholars of media history and faculty from schools around the nation, Canada and Europe.

Attendees are expected to talk about the challenges of using archival materials in academic work and preserving the historical record of radio, film, TV and theater.

The center owns more than 300 manuscript collections, 15,000 motion pictures and television shows, 2 million still photographs, and several thousand recordings.
