A local lawmaker is working to ban 911 audio recordings from the public's access.

Right now, the recordings are considered an open record under Wisconsin law.

Representative Amy Sue Vruwink of Milladore says playback of the recordings on TV and radio makes victim's re-live their ordeal.

She believes this new bill is needed to protect those victim's rights.

"In no ways is it restricting the ability for people to have access to the written, but this will limit the ability for people to re-victimize families, especially when it comes to hearing the tragedy over and over again," says Vruwink.

She says written transcripts of those recordings would still be open to the public.

Currently, a state Assembly committee is reviewing the bill.
