Dane of My Existence: Benefit tonight for DJ Mike Carlson

Tonight at the Inferno, friends and fans of Mike Carlson are throwing a benefit party to raise money for the longtime local DJ and his family, who lost their home on the North Side -- and reportedly a collection of more than 12,000 vinyl records -- on Tuesday when a fire destroyed most of the house.

Carlson runs MC Audio and has been DJing in the Madison area for decades. Eric Oehler of Null Device posted a blog today about Carlson and "what a genuinely nice guy he is."

Every few times I see him, he tells me you know what Im really digging these days? That acid jazz. I usually joke that he has so much vinyl that hes merely rediscovering stuff hes owned for years and just forgotten about. I wont be able to make that joke anymore.

Matt Fanale, aka Caustic and DJ Eurotic, is helping to organize the benefit tonight. According to the Facebook event page he's set up, he'll be DJing the dance party along with Wyatt Agard, Alan!, Psy-Phi, Cykophuk, Eye Am and DJ Foundation, with plenty more being added in the coming hours as the Inferno staff pulls the event together on the fly.

Doors open at 9 a.m., it's 21+, and there's free pool and no cover. Bring non-perishable food, cash and clothing donations. To make a donation online to Carlson and his family, send money via PayPal to mikeandfamilybenefit@gmail.com.
