Carson got lucky here. If NBC's (stupid) plan to give Leno a half hour show before The Tonight Show went through, it would have pushed Carson back into local affiliate time where many affiliates probably wouldn't have agreed to carry his show and it would have been cancelled.
: TMZ is reporting that Jay Leno will return to the Tonight Show for a full hour on NBC at 1035pm, effective in early March following the Winter Olympics. Conan is out at NBC and other media sources are reporting that his final show could be as early as next Friday, January 22nd. If these stories all hold up, look for Leno from 1035-1135pm followed by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon at 1135 and then Carson Daly.
