LAS VEGAS, NEVADA -- Twitter messaging and Internet radio is heading to a Ford vehicle near you.

Through its Sync system, Ford hopes the mobile applications entice customers to their line of vehicles.

At the International Consumer Electronics Show, CEO Alan Mulally told an audience that the Sync is voice-activated and is safer for drivers than using their phones in the car.

Ford executives plan that Sync will work with Internet radio services Pandora and Stitcher and with OpenBeak, a program that reads friends' Twitter posts out loud.

Google Inc. is in talks with Ford as well about bringing their services to the car company. Microsoft developed the Sync technology for Ford back in 2007.
