Just goofing off today and found my name on this board.
Ed canned me in January of 1997, he was tough to work for but I think I gave him some major agita!
Most of my time there (ten years in all) I had a good personal relationship with Ed but we had professional differences that really strained things. There was one event where he and I went toe to toe on something he was doing to my on air staff that I thought was really sleazy, words were exchanged and things really went downhill from there. Couple months later he told me that he was going to keep me around until I left but two weeks later he took a blind box ad in Radio and Records looking for my replacement, I would not have known except he put the station's 800 number in it! Kind of funny when you look back at it now, I mean, you can't make that stuff up!
Learned a lot from the man and still miss the nights sitting at the fair booth with him enjoying a beer and watching the crowds, those were good times. Regret that I did not see him again before he died.
Anyway, when he decided to pull the plug on Doug, I was already well into efforts to attain a second degree in a more stable, more highly compensated career field. Moved into the world of Information Systems about 4 months after Kramer Broadcasting sent me packing!
Today, I still live in Portage, do a little voice over work on the side and commute to Madison every day where I am a Senior Software Developer for a large insurance concern. I still lead an active lifestyle, Ski Patrol at Cascade, hunt deer obsessively without killing anything, golf poorly, teach Spinning at two health clubs and other general mischief!
Best to all in the New Year!
