My best guess:
Howard re-ups for less money, but more incentives. He works dramatically less hours. He re-ups for only 1 year-possibly two with some "easy out" clauses.
He uses this next year to finish constructing his new, secret website with subscription radio, paid-per-hear podcasts & pay-per-view video events.
Satellite radio is dying faster than terrestrial radio. (No big surprise, since it is being run by one of the architects of terrestrial radio's demise.) Internet radio is the next big frontier, but more importantly for Howard, it is the next big challenge for him to conquer. He has conquered terrestrial radio, satellite radio, and made himself a multi-millionaire. What's next? What's left to conquer? Internet. Howard will be there. The smart ones are already in it or getting in it soon.
