GLENN BECK is recuperating TODAY from emergency surgery to remove his appendix after an attack suffered while he was doing his PREMIERE RADIO NETWORKS show.

BECK will be off the air for at least the rest of the week, with his regular fill-in CLEAR CHANNEL Talk WOAI-A/SAN ANTONIO and KPRC-A/HOUSTON host JOE PAGLIARULO pressed into service TODAY and FRIDAY. BECK contributor PAT GRAY finished WEDNESDAY's show after BECK fell ill.

Meanwhile, BECK's championing of books to his audience gets a profile in the NEW YORK TIMES, which carries a quote from author BRAD THOR calling BECK "our OPRAH" for conservatives.
