People think we just sit there and push buttons, but it's more active than you think. Ideally you do your show-prep before each show, but as you get older in the biz, you learn to retain more as you watch the news or check your preferred internet sites for news entertainment sites, faster. There's always something to look up for later, or if you have an idea for a bit or a topical phone call with a listener. There's getting the weather, making notes on your thoughts for a station item or your next info/entertainment bit, all kinds of things. You rarely sit down, you're constantly moving and thinking and coordinating and time-managing, to fit your creativity into your PD's plan for the hours you're in there. It can be busier than you think.
: What do disc jockeys do the whole time? I flip between Z104 and Magic 98 and a couple others. Are these folks just writing their banter during the "music marathon"? Do they have other duties in between? I don't think that they are the people choosing the next 7 songs or anything.
: Mind you, I'm not criticizing or anything. I'm just really curious when I'm listening!
