I'm told they even refer to it internally by that name - talking about another potential set of personnel cuts, as owners Bain Capital and Thomas H. Lee Partners begin staring at budgets for 2010. I also hear they'll be looking particularly hard at cuts in the backroom, cuts that had been speculated about before but not carried out.
Another thing, while we're on Clear Channel. Did it ever go through with the plan to hire those 40 "revenue managers?" That was announced back in March, when Clear Channel recruited new Senior VP of Revenue Management John Kaufman, a veteran of the airline and hotel industries. The 40 revenue managers were supposed to work directly with market managers and sales directors on strategy and - particularly - pricing. One source tells me "I think they did name some current people to those jobs, but I don't know if they ever did any outside hiring." He says "mostly, they just told people to up the rates" by as much as 20%."
