NEW YORK (WKOW) -- It's a day of remembrance across the United States on the eighth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
For the first time, today has been declared a national day of service.
Ceremonies across the country will honor the victims and heroes of the attacks of 9-11, when jets crashed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania.
Here at home, local police are holding a series of ceremonies downtown starting at 8:40 a.m., the time American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower. (New 27's Barbara Vaughan was at the touching memorial; to watch her report, click on the camera icon on the left-hand side)
