: : Umm...no, I wasn't canned, angry expert Tooly. I left my gig three years ago to pursue a Master's degree. And I am happily reaping the rewards of that decision. You are right about the industry changes. I had a lot of fun while in the biz but things have definitely changed and I am glad to be out. When I talk to former coworkers in various markets it's all the same...a big grind, smaller pay, tons of VT, and a reduced staff. How can those conditions sustain passionate and interesting radio? Next...ha.
: :

: I have to agree with Tooly. you sound like every other angry ex-jock who's trying to "stick it to the man" by listening to satellite. Even your "I'm gettin a masters..." line still reeks of the same BS we hear from angry ex-industry hacks. I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt here and assume you are happy to be out and are living the american dream. Good for you.

Ha! No "BS" here. I'm actually not angry at all...quite the contrary. Sorry if I came off as such. I guess disappointed would be accurate. I got into the biz in the 90's and had a blast...radio was fun! R&R reporting status, concerts, regular artist visits, etc. But, simply stated, radio changed, and it was no longer as fun as it used to be (Hell, R&R doesn't even exist now) and the future looked grim so I left to hit the books again. I miss radio sometimes, but I miss the way it used to be, not what it was when I left. I think Sirius rocks and I have no problem paying $150 per year for great content and tons of diverse programming. I'm not sure how that is considered "sticking it to the man." "Agreed", thank you for your kind words...doing well here!
