Sebastian is notorius for this stunting. Expect a 'format a day' stunting followed by a 'new' country station. One that plays Southern Rock, Jim Croce, Eagles, Seager, etc. A true hybrid country-old rock format. As for the future daily formats I expect we shall hear rock, hip hop, a/c and maybe even one more format. One per day until the new station debuts. Likely this weekend.

I read the John Sebastian penned (and distributed) memo on his own hire to mwf as quoted online here. It's a common mistake to new people coming into Madison: the angle to program to the perceived 'hipness' of the city. Without exception 75% or more of WMAD and WWQM's cume comes from outside of a Madison zipcode. Programming that way with a "hip" hybrid country format will not work. Mainly because none of those people will listen regardless of what you do. They're listening to TripleM, 94.9 or Talk. The audience are farmers, traditional families in the burbs and commuters. Not a city crowd. Country often fails to get mentioned in some country zip codes - and there are potentially 4 or 5 stations a diary keeper could write down.

I do give John credit for one thing. He is always smart enough to leave before it tanks. Sticks around for the marketing and stunting cume bump and then ditches leaving a decimated station already on the decline.

Start the egg timer. 18 months would be a long tenure in Madison for JS.

: Unfortunately, it looks like the format change for Q106 is only temporary for today.

: It's really too bad, I heard more decent music today than I've heard in months on WOLX - they've gone downhill fast with their 70's and 80's additions to their playlists (they picked the WORST songs from the 70's to add) - and, now that The Lake is off the air, there is really nothing. Triple M plays the same 50 songs over and over again.

: We need a decent oldies channel in this city - satellite or not; I'd even take another "True Oldies Channel" outlet from Scott Shannon over the dreck we have.....
