: WISC-TV lays off six employees
: By TOM ALESIA
: CBS affiliate WISC-TV (Ch. 3) has laid off six full- and part-time staffers from various departments, including two on-air newscasters.
: News anchor Teri Barr who handled the 9 p.m. newscast on WISC partner My Madison TV (Ch. 14) and co-anchored WISCs 10 p.m. newscast and sports reporter Trisha Hermanson were among the staffers let go on Wednesday.
: Other cuts were made in engineering, marketing and promotions, and administration.
: Its because of the advertising, said station manager Tom Bier. In our business, our almost exclusive source of revenue is advertising. We give away the product for free. Obviously the recession hurts.
: He said the reduction of auto advertising and national advertising in particular has lowered revenues, but local advertising has remained supportive.

: : Nice to see the WSJ catching up to what was reported here.
That is really too bad. I think Teri Barr was probably one of the most professional anchors in the Madison market. She was knowledgeable, personable and brought a "big city" anchor style to WISC that the other stations are sorely lacking.
It just goes to show that like radio, local TV news is dying same as radio.
I bought an Ipod player for my car after WOLX and MMM let go of Ginger Martin and Gabby Parsons respectivly. I don't know what to do about local TV news now. There really isn't another option that I would consider.
