We are saddened to report the death of legendary voiceover and movie trailer artist Don LaFontaine, who died Monday afternoon, Sept. 1 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He was 68 and had been hospitalized for more than a week due to complications from a blood clot in his lung. LaFontaine's agent, Vanessa Gilbert, told Entertainment Tonight that LaFontaine died following complications from Pneumothorax, the presence of air in the pleural cavity, the result of a collapsed lung.

LaFontaine, a.k.a. "The King of Voiceovers," had lent his distinctively booming voice to nearly 5,000 films and TV commercials, including that recent GEICO TV spot where he parodied his own announcer image. He was also the voice of Entertainment Tonight and The Insider, and did work for virtually every TV network. He is survived by his wife, singer/actress Nita Whitaker, and three children.
