publish2 a news appregator's dream

I just signed up with publish2 to test run their news bookmarking service.

Win friends and influence people

Centered around journalists and newsrooms, this social networking service promises to benefit journalists in their day to day work, "Save, organize, and publish links to interesting and important news on your own web site or blog, with just a click. Save links privately for your own reporting, then publish selected links along with your story to enhance its value." Additional benefits advertised include building a personal brand and influencing what news is read.

For the organization, the pitch is similar to that of any social networking site. Expand your audience, go viral, leverage the network. One of the cool features here is the ability to group-blog links on a given topic. We've been kicking around the idea of having a Madison news aggregation blog and this would allow everyone in the organization to contribute. Pretty cool.

publish2 is the brain child of Scott Karp and Josh Korr. You can read all about their involvement in the project at Reflections of a Newsosaur. In fact, that blog entry is my first foray into using publish2. You can see the results in the right hand side of this page under "Journalism and tech links."

I can see lots of potential for this tool in our operation. We're set to do lots of aggregation and it can also be effective in gathering related content links for articles and blogs.
