I have a Reecom weather radio, have bought some for friends/family, too. They work well,, haven't had any hardware failures and I believe they do recognize the EOM. Also very customizable in terms of letting you mute siren for different warnings (e.g., not interested in waking up the whole house for a severe tstorm warning, but do want the siren for the tornado warning).
