Walker Upped To GM At WUNC

UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA noncommercial WUNC (NORTH CAROLINA PUBLIC RADIO)/CHAPEL HILL interim PD CONNIE WALKER has been upped to GM, filling the opening left last JULY by the departure of JOAN SIEFERT ROSE to join the COUNCIL FOR ENTERPRENEURIAL DEVELOPMENT as President. WALKER joined WUNC as News Director in 2005 after 10 years at WISCONSIN PUBLIC RADIO.

"There's nothing more satisfying than doing a national search and finding the perfect candidate right here at home," said UNC Chancellor HOLDEN THORP. "We are confident that CONNIE will make an already strong station even stronger."

"I think this is the best job in public radio, and I'm honored to have the opportunity to lead WUNC," said WALKER. "It's a great station because it has an incredibly dedicated, talented staff and very loyal listeners. I want us to build on what we've already achieved and move the station forward with a continued commitment to quality and service to our audience."
