Broadcast and cable TV is desperately trying to create new appointment tv. People fast forward with DVR or Tivo something like 45% of the time now and that's reflected in lower response to ads. Advertisers are demanding ways to reach a live audience or at least one that's so loyal they'll watch commercials to support the show and station. One good example that shocked me is with WGN America. I saw a promo last week for a new original series it's premiering. I can't remember the name but it was about vampires or witches or something like that. That's in contrast to just running reruns of Matlock and In The Heat Of The Night.
