In January of 2009, it was very publicly announced that WTMJ had extended Sykes' contract. Charlie is currently under contract with JBG until late 2014.

Charlie's extension was longer than Greene's, as Greene was already eying retirement at the time he inked his extension.

Incidentally, I've found reports and rumors of Charlie's "imminent demise" in the J/S archives dating all the way back to 1998, when he took a 2-month hiatus from the show for personal reasons. For those of you keeping score at home, that was 15 years ago. Charlie's still there, much to the dismay of his critics.

If you crunch the numbers in Dudek's post yesterday evening, Charlie is actually the bright spot in WTMJ's programming. His numbers are off slightly, but his decline pales in comparison to that of the stations other time slots. The Morning Drive alone is down 60% since 2011.

Charlie's not going anywhere in the near future. Reports of his impending fall from glory will have an outcome reminiscent of Ed Schultz' predictions of Scott Walker's "forthcoming indictment"... in June of 2012.

And we know how that turned out.

Keep up the lunatic speculation, though. It makes you all seem so much more Ed Schultz-like...
